I am a first-year teacher. I was lucky to replace a veteran teacher that left some of her classroom books. However, most of the books are falling apart and are very old. I also do not have many chapter books for my students who are reading on a higher level. I have tried to replace them and add to them throughout the year, but new ones would be great. Reading is such a major part of first grade and proper reading material to fit all students' levels is very important. My students are on all different reading levels from beginners to chapter book readers. New books for my library that range on different levels would be useful to help my students grow. My students are always excited when I get new books for our book nook. They all want to see what is new and be one of the first to read one of the new ones. I want to encourage reading and learning to read in any way I can. When students are excited to read, they will be learning at the same time.
