The pandemic keeps our students away from school more than ever before, and for my students, they would much rather be at school. Most of them come from homes that are neglecting, and several suffer the after affects of being born to parents with addictions. Their homes are not warm cozy places with plenty of food and unconditional love. School is the place they feel safe. But, so many students have difficulties staying seated at a desk all day. Maybe they are tired from too little sleep at home and can’t stay awake in class. Or maybe they have ADHD and are unable to control themselves in a classroom where they are expected to be silent and seated in a desk without movement. With non-traditional flexible seating, my students will feel safe and comfortable and will be better able to focus on learning mathematics.
