For students wishing to pursue a profession in science, dissecting can provide a valuable, hands-on experience. Dissecting in high school gives them an opportunity to become familiar with tissues, organs, organ systems, and techniques that a surgeon might study. Dissection is a memorable time and instruction in science at the high school level. It gives them an opportunity to learn how their own bodies work.
