My students are coming to school as early intervention special needs students. We learn through play! Blocks and manipulatives for toddlers can not be beat! Each type of hands-on material offers opportunities for tactile and kinesthetic experiences, they aide in the development of hand-eye coordination, hand strength, spatial awareness and problem solving skills. Beginner peg puzzles, Smart Monkey imagibricks, rainbow sand/shimmer/crystal bead blocks, Gel Bead sensory shapes, stack 'em up blocks, sound number puzzles, gertie balls, and snap counters are all manipulative that encourage language development and social skills through discussion, taking turns and sharing. Overall, manipulative and blocks promote the development of new friendships, help children increase attention span, increase motor skills, encourage cooperation with others, and develop self-esteem and self reliance. My students would love the opportunity to have additional hands-on materials to explore in our classroom.
