Being a math teacher I have noticed the decline in basic foundational skills due to the pandemic. The decline continues as students struggle being out of school for weeks at a time with COVID. Parents are often not able to help at home simply because they have not used the math since they were in high school themselves. Returning students often need extra math assistance and with the headphones, can take advantage of video tutorials right in the classroom. I also plan to use the headphones for station learning. Allowing students to rotate stations based on subjects. Some stations would require the listening of a quick video to complete a lesson or problem and would move students around the room encouraging them to continue to be engaged in our lesson. I also have several students whose first language is not English. Having the ability to listen and pause a video also helps those ELL students grasp foundational concepts at their own pace. The headphones will not only be used for my math class, but my Marketing class and Senior Capstone classes for project research where listening to an online source is a necessary part of the lesson.
