Many students have fallen below grade level in the wake of COVID. As a special education teacher, I have seen my students, who already were not working at grade level, fall even further behind. Using multisensory, hands-on learning materials in my classroom to teach missing concepts helps students grasp new concepts more quickly, and to retain the information. I hope to make progress to close learning gaps that exist for my students. I make many of the teaching items that I use in my classroom, but that takes time and financial resources that are limited for me. Some things, such as the cash register I have requested, will provide engagement and relevance to real-life when teaching about money. This will, in turn, speed the learning process.
