My goal is to provide interactive, developmentally appropriate spaces to encourage foundational skills in language, social emotional, literacy, science, math and other developmental skills. It only takes 10-20 repetitions to create a new synapse in the brain when done through play; Having a sensory table learning center, with materials we can exchange throughout the year, will provide my students with a variety of opportunities to build neural pathways through hands on exploration and application of their learning through play. Sensory play engages all five senses to help children make connections and apply new skills. Our students explore the world around them through their senses and play! This sensory table center will provide an environment for students to work on foundational life and academic skills. The sensory table center will provide an area where students can apply their academic knowledge in math, science and literacy as well as, promote developmental skills such as fine motor and communication. Sensory integration can also have a positive impact on student behavior as it provides a safe and appropriate place for students to regulate their emotions when needed. This project will benefit my students in many ways and encourage their eagerness and love for learning!
