Students are experiencing several holes in their educational careers due to the pandemic. Online learning isn't successful or engaging for all children. Some children do not receive the support, resources, or environment they need to succeed. Regardless of a student's independent reading level, students enjoy reading non-fiction text that falls in line with their interests. The "Who Was", "Who Would Win", and "I Survived" series include books about people, events, and animals which sparks curiosity. The "Who Would Win" books also provide great opportunities to introduce and review important literacy skills like comparing and contrasting characters. Students enjoy non-traditional ways to learn new skills, especially hands-on activities! The science kit, class book set, non-fiction books, measuring tape, markers, and paper will be used in a variety of ways to increase engagement and make their learning experiences memorable. Other materials such as sheet protectors and small plastic totes will be used in ways that will offer organization and safety for everyone in the classroom.
