The materials will be used to create a learning environment that will be beneficial to the diverse needs of students through sensory toys/objects, flexible seating, and lighting.
When students feel safe and comfortable they can engage in learning. The use of sensory objects can help students learn to self-regulate their emotions and interact appropriately in social settings like the classroom. These materials would be beneficial for my students as the materials would help create a safe, comfortable space in which students can focus and grow through the challenges that the pandemic has thrown at them not only academically but also emotionally.
Many of these students come to school because it is their safe place.
In my class, we use a reward system through punch cards and candy/prizes to help keep students both focused, motivated, and on-task. The bulk toys/prizes are for the rewards bucket that students earn throughout the week via their punch cards. The candy is used for an instant tangible reward for working hard, staying focused, and making progress towards their classroom goals.
