In our classroom we spend a sufficient amount of time with the pencil and paper method of math. But we all know that the beauty of technology in math is in the ability to insert an equation into a graphing calculator and see the results immediately. To be able to analyze from a display of a graph opens up a whole new world of learning and observation. The COVID-19 pandemic has thwarted the advancement of students in the mathematics classroom tremendously! The hands-on ability in respect to the graphing calculator has been a very difficult task. To make the classroom more engaging, my students would welcome the learning of how to use the TI-84 calculator in a more advanced way. We are planning on spending about half a class period one day a week just for learning the advanced features of this calculator. One, so the students can see equations and functions come to life. Two, so the students can use the calculators efficiently and with confidence on the ACT test. The ACT test already carries its own anxiety. I do not want my students to add to that anxiety by not knowing how to use this valuable resource that is available to them. I want to give them the chance to be as effective as possible. The pandemic has already cost them valuable class time. This should not be at their expense also!
