I am requesting a variety of sensory materials my special education students will use to practice and develop gross motor skills, to enhance coordination, promote social interactions and to help students relax and improve focus. Sensory play with materials such as clay dough, sensory sand, marble runs, sensory spheres, water marbles, and sensory beads also build language and vocabulary, as well as, promoting social interaction. Special education students engaged in sensory play have an easier time recalling information which in turn helps them to learn. Students needing to refocus and regulate their behavior and emotions may use step balance sensory stones, tactile pillows, liquid floor tiles, wobble cushions, and other washable sensory materials in the classroom. Because most of these items are portable they will be easy to transport and be shared with all classroom teachers to serve our entire school population. These materials can also be sent home with students in the event of a school closing or virtual instruction. If this grant is approved it will greatly improve the environment in my classroom. It will help complete the room in a way that will best serve my students. Thank you for your consideration.
