My students are ambitious learners who have mentioned an interest in a larger and more diverse classroom library. The students in my classroom come from a very small community where they lack parental support. The community has a public library and the school has a library. Due to COVID-19, the students are not allowed to take books home, and due to lack of parental support, they may not have access to the public library outside of school hours. Having a classroom library will give them access to learning outside of school. The books that I have chosen for my classroom will help foster student learning in and out of school. I have chosen books that fit a wide range of interests and reading levels, as that best fits the need of my students. My students have a wide range of interests when it comes to reading. I have students of color who have asked for a more diverse reading selection, I have athletes who have asked for more sports books and meeting the requests of my students will foster their interest in reading for pleasure as well as for knowledge.
