Stress is at a high level these days. Stressers from both home and school due to the changes in the past 2 years have taken a definite toll on our students in the classroom. Students with ADHD find it more difficult than ever to focus and feel motivated. Solution - take a sensory tool (in my case, fidget spinners) and put them to good use! In order to challenge my students to improve reading fluency, I would like to give them each a durable, modern-looking fidget spinner to spin as a "timer". Students will give it a spin, read a passage to a partner and stop when the spinner stops. The challenge is to give it a good spin, read phrases, sight words, sentences, etc. until the spinner stops, then record. Partners will take turns, monitor each other, and repeat to improve their scores.
