During COVID-19, many students started reading and enjoying a real paper bound book. They were ready to get away from the social media and audio recordings The daily anxiety that flooded their screens put a strange uneasiness into their lives, and they needed places to escape-places only experienced through the pages of a book. In our classroom, students explore the class bookshelves searching for the right book to grab their attention. The struggling readers have read all the easy books, and they are hesitant to take a chance on a new author. The advanced readers have read all the upper level books; therefore, they are low on options and unable to discover more authors and genres. As a class we have read and learned the key concepts provided by the author. We are desperate for books in our classroom because, as you know, it takes just ONE GOOD BOOK to spark a student's love for reading, New books like the Grade 5 Classic-PLUS (97 Books) would allow the students to feel confident in their choices because the books would be shared, read and recommended by their friends through lesson such as BookFlix and BookSnaps. We can use new books to help incorporate more Project Based Learning assignments. (PBL) They would feel excited to have new books that were new, fresh and clean. They would have a sense of ownership in the books because they belonged to them, their class.
