This project will directly relate to student learning by giving them a hands-on learning experience. The telescope and constellation view finder will not just allow the students to see in real-time what is normally only viewed online, the students will be able to document orbital movement of stars and planets. This project will be conducted with collaboration with a instructional coach, and parents engaged with their children's learning at night. The night viewing will take part in conjunction with research development that will then be used in the classroom to engage in research based learning within normal class time hours. Along with the telescope project, the soil tester will also be used in our new greenhouse addition to our middle school. The students will be taking part in the very first hands-on approach to life science and biology conducting plant growth in the greenhouse.
Project base learning and hands-on approaches to education bridge the gap of many different learning styles of our students today.
In final words, this project being funded will not just engage students in a real hands on approach to learning, it will allow parents to engage alongside their children's learning experiences in school. My science class is known for community approach and parent/guardian approach to learning. Funding of this project will add another learning experience for all my students grades 5 - 8.
