Living in a Pandemic has created stress for everyone, but especially for the students. Due to Covid, students need to have their own space. With flexible seating, students can work in different areas of the classroom. The headphones will allow each student to work independently on what they are learning. Many of my students struggle with personal space and with Covid having to sit close increases their chances of getting sick. As a consequence of limited resources, only some of my students have working headphones and there are only three flexible seats in my classroom of 10 students. This purchase will ensure that each student will have headphones and flexible seating space. The target population is for a Special Education Moderate-Cognitive Self-Contained Elementary classroom for grades K-5. The disabilities include Autism, ADHD, ADD, Intellectual Disabilities, Developmentally Delayed, Speech-Language Impairment, Hearing, and Vision Impairment. At times, we may have a student yelling or screaming in the classroom. This is a distraction to the other students' learning. The loud noises at times can even trigger some students to react negatively or completely shut down. Many students that have learning disabilities also have hypersensitivity to noise and sound. I've requested parents to bring headphones but many of them are on a limited income. Having flexible seating options and headphones cater to the needs of students with learning disabilities. It also helps students move freely, circulate blood flow, process information, and focus. Furthermore, receiving these items would help my students with their academic needs and learning goals by stimulating their sensory needs and when necessary, creating a quiet learning environment.
