Ukuleles are easy to transport from school to home and back whether the students ride in a car, on a school bus, on a bicycle, or if they walk. Often when my students are asked to perform at community events, there is not a piano or an adequate CD player and speaker available to use as accompaniment. Teaching the students to play ukuleles will provide a unique opportunity for them to learn to accompany themselves and others contributing to their social-emotional well-being. If students are forced to attend school virtually because of COVID related issues, a ukulele provides a way for them to continue honing their musical skills through music reading and online performance opportunities.
