Flexible seating gives students opportunities to take charge of their learning and make choices that work for them. These seats will be available for any student who would rather work in the floor with their Chromebook or novel to enable maximum attention and focus. Novels allow students to explore different perspectives, create deeper understanding of cultures, while learning the OAS, and hopefully develop a life long love for reading. Esperanza Rising, Out of My Mind, and Island of the Blue Dolphins will allow students to read from the perspective of characters from Hispanic, Native American cultures, as well as a student being bullied. I hope by teaching the Oklahoma Academic Standards using these diverse novels, students will develop the love for reading therby improving reading and comprehension skills.
