Struggling math students will often learn from using a different approach other than paper and pencil. My students seem to gain a better understanding of the skills I am wanting them to acquire if I use a project, activity, or game to help with the understanding. I want to give my students a chance to enjoy math through discovery by playing board games, using geoboards to design objects, and K'nex to spark their creativity and engineering side. Students will use the Systems of Equation game to help keep them engaged while gaining a better understanding of Systems of Equations. We will talk about different geometric shapes used in building bridges, then the students will demonstrate by creating a bridge. The dry erase for the desk will help students, while designing projects to sketch ideas down quickly. It will also help with students who are shy about writing down their process.
