Due to the pandemic last year, my kindergarten students did not have the joys of a normal school year during their pre-k year. They missed school many times due to quarantining because of close contact. Even though virtual learning opportunities were available, my students struggled to learn what they needed to through a virtual platform. Flexible seating is something I would like to offer my students as having a way to focus while sitting comfortably in a seat of their choice. This year, I’m seeing the repercussions of losing a year of traditional learning. Most of my students are starting from square one, not just in academics, but in following classroom routine. One thing some of students struggle with is sitting at the carpet during circle time or sitting on a traditional chair for small groups and independent work. I believe flexible seating might help my students to focus while sitting and addressing their sensory needs at the same time.
