All of my students want to learn about various cultures around the world including their own. I would like to expand my music classroom library to incorporate multicultural music book for their levels. In doing this I can also incorporate more reading into my lessons. This would also help with the students' reading and understanding.
I would also like to expand their knowledge of various instruments from around the world. Students get very excited about using instruments in music class. Using instruments helps with motor development as well as cognitive development. They have to read rhythms as well as be able to keep the steady beat. When the students have the opportunity to use instruments as well as parachutes and elastic bands it helps with their self confidence. They will leave my class feeling like they have accomplished great things.
This year I have had students come back from being out of school for a year do to COVID-19 have high anxiety. The ability to make them feel welcome and to have supplies such as instruments, books, movement activities on hand using scarves, parachutes, and elastic bands could help relax that anxiety.
