I am a first year teacher with nothing on the walls and little to work with, I am hoping these materials will bring life to my classroom, along with learning tools that require a hands on approach since most students learn better that way. I have learned that giving my students all of the hands on resources that they can use helps them stay engaged with the lessons and retain more information than they would with just paper and pencil. I tell my students' parents the more words they see the better readers they become. I have been arranging for a reading corner in the classroom for the students to explore more words on their own. I imagine this area as a miniature library in the classroom where they can escape when they need a break or just hang out during free time. They are usually excited to learn new things and I want to give them a space where they feel safe and comfortable to do so, helping to give my students that encouragement to learn. Applying posters along the walls will not only bring that encouragement, but it'll help their minds grow. I am hoping to give my students that don't come from much, the resources to learn that will meet my students' needs.
