TS is a diverse and unique place. We have people from many walks of life. A great challenge we face is a declining budget and having a growing community of impoverished people. As a teacher of music from Pre-k through 6th, Junior High chorus and High school chorus, I do my best to use the historic library of music we have and be creative in teaching to be efficient. Improvements to various aspects of the elementary program, and allowing individuals to participate simultaneously, would be most helpful. We have a good number of personal xylophones to visually and aurally aspects of music theory. However, without mallets to play them, they sit in a box. Individual white boards to write on for in class growth exercises in ear training and music theory would decrease the need of paper in the classroom and save in that area for the school. In upper classes, the music library needs a diverse and more personal list of solo literature for contest. Our school has a large number of Latin and Hispanic family heritage. Being able to equip soloists in their native tongue for their families would be a great way to leverage the importance in the community. Throughout my teaching, I also like to teach on the importance of Spirituals in our music history. Also having solo material from a Spiritual genre would provide a greater diversity of cultural understanding for students of all backgrounds. Lastly, the pandemic has created the need for flexibility in performance. Having a quality recording device to provide the community access to performances of groups of all ages, will be effective in years to come. The secondary benefit also being it can be used for the refinement of the students through review of their practice and performance. Thank you.
