Berps are devices that connect to the lead pipe of all brass instruments (trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba). These will be used by all of our brass students in the band at Stillwater Junior High to improve tone quality. These devices help build resistance, improve air flow, and help with pitch accuracy and finding the tonal center. These students were significantly affected by the Pandemic because a large majority of their most crucial years of musical development was spent behind a computer. This caused some developmental issues that we have been working hard to improve this year in 8th grade band. Berps are the missing piece that will help provide these students with the tools they need to improve their tone qualities on their instrument. These students work very hard on a daily basis and have proven that they have a desire to succeed in band. They have shown a dedication to the band program by sticking it out during a significant amount of time behind a computer when many of their friends chose not to do so. These students deserve the best musical education they can receive and I'd love the opportunity to empower them succeed!
