Throughout the past few years, my students have spent a great deal of time with electronics in their hands instead of books due to the pandemic. My goal this year has been to introduce my students to a wide variety of genres in hopes of finding that one book that turns all my students into readers. This group of students has found many books they have loved this year. However, there is one genre my school and classroom library are lacking: science fiction. This is a genre that has out-of-this-world characters and settings that can spark the imagination of any reader. I think the imaginative thinking in this genre would capture the imagination of my creative students and spark their interest in reading. J.K. Rowling said, "If you don't like to read, you haven't found the right book." I believe this is true. I want to help my students find the book that makes them love to read. I believe making science fiction books available to them would help do that!
