Encouraging students to measure items in the classroom using appropriate tools shows them that math can be both practical and fun! Due to the restrictions of the pandemic, many of these activities were phased out of classrooms due to a lack of enough measurement tools or supplies for an entire class. Showing students how measurement is used in their daily lives, and showing them the correct way to use measurement tools will strengthen their overall performance in math and science. A simple set of measurement tools empowers a student to answer some of their own questions about size and shape. A classroom set of geometry and measurement tools will allow my students to measure and draw basic geometric shapes in the real world, as well as calculate the perimeter, area, and volume. The measurement and geometry tools requested will give my students a way of making math and science tangible. It will allow them to quantify the amounts or sizes of the objects and shapes around them in terms that they understand.
