The last time many of my students in my fourth grade class had a normal school year was first grade. On top of being a first-year teacher, I am working with them to have the supplies they need to keep their environment organized and to help them manage their bodies. Students have missed out on the routine of a classroom over the past few years. They struggle to take responsibility for their belongings because there was little need to put things away at home. The mailboxes will help students in my room store their belongings to keep their collaborative tables clear and to prevent overloaded backpacks. With so little space the clipboard organizer will help the students find and then return material to the proper place so that we can easily grab a board for circle work or outside learning. We have been working hard this year on managing our bodies and making good choices. The wobble seats will help my many students that need to move, move their bodies during a lesson without distracting themselves or others if they were to move around the room. I have "Making Great Choices" punch cards to catch my students and encourage them in positive ways. They work to earn a surprise from the prize box. I want the prizes to be more than just toys and something that they can use as a tool to make more great choices. Being a new teacher I am short on books. The books I have selected are to inspire thoughts of kindness and give them a look into not only our present world but the past and the outer reaches of our solar system. I hope you can support our room so that I can give my students what they need to be successful.
