We use the learning rug almost daily in my classroom. Second graders are a wiggly, energetic bunch. They need lots of movement in their day to be able to stay focused and attentive. There are several ways I use a learning rug in my classroom. 1. I use it as a way for students to get out of their seats and move somewhere different. 2. It is a way to indicate to students that we are having a special learning time and they need to pay special attention. It also limits distractions that they might otherwise have in their desks. 3. A rug is just a fun place to lay down, choose a book, and relax for a minute from the busyness that is second grade.
