As stated by Oklahoma State Superintendent, Joy Hofmeister, “The pandemic has ravaged our schools and affected each teacher’s classroom in a unique way.” In response to these challenges, I would like to purchase 6 additional TI-84 Graphing calculators for use in my classroom. I would also like to purchase batteries for all calculators, graph paper, rulers, and dry erase markers. During the 2020 2021 academic year, Texas Instruments allowed students to download a graphing calculator emulator onto their devices. When we were in class, the students used the handheld graphing calculators that I have in my classroom. This academic year, there would be a subscription charge, so I am only using the physical calculators in my classroom. This has created a juggling act as I try to manage the calculators that I can check out to students while maintaining enough calculators in the classroom for student use. Less than half of my students have the means to purchase a graphing calculator and I want all my students to have access to the technology they need to be successful. I would also like to purchase graph paper and rulers so that the students can graph different functions by hand. I have several activities where the students gather their own data, create graphs, and then use the graphing calculators to write and graph the appropriate regression equations. The pandemic has shifted so much emphasis to assignments online that many students do not purchase traditional math materials such as graph paper and rulers. I have small dry erase boards in my classroom and would like to purchase dry erase markers for student use. I have students write their equations and solve them and they are very receptive to using the marker boards for their scratch work.
