As I continue to follow the Science of Reading research, which highlights how the brain learns to read, the importance of systematic and explicit phonemic awareness instruction has never been more clear. The tech tub, phonics matches, and other supplies I am requesting will enable me to provide my students with a variety of hands-on learning activities and skills practice. These materials will assist me in delivering instruction that is engaging, meaningful, and student-specific. Additionally, all of these items can be used in a myriad of settings (small group, independent, interventions, etc.), thus creating a classroom environment that encourages flexibility and choice, which leads to greater engagement and buy-in from all involved! By donating to this project, you will help me deliver the systematic and explicit literacy instruction that research shows to be life-changing for young readers! The students will be so excited to actively participate in their learning through the seemingly endless ways in which these items can be used. Furthermore, the supplies I have requested will afford the students increased opportunities to work collaboratively with their peers and engage in structured gameplay. This will not only address academic needs but also social skill development, which has been deeply impacted by the isolation and disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The items I have requested will truly enable me to enhance my instruction so that all of my students are given what they need to become strong, successful, and confident readers and writers!
