This project with help students through pandemic-impacted learning. Over the past few years, my students have had very limited resources available to them. They have been asked to use PDF versions of books, E-books, and various other digital resources. While those resources are wonderful, nothing beats a child being able to sit down with their own hard copy of a book and getting lost in its’ printed pages. These books will continue to enhance the print-rich, in-person learning experience that I strive to create. I am also needing hands-on word games and manipulatives for my students to enjoy within my classroom. Throughout the pandemic, my students were seated 6 feet apart from each other, unable to enjoy or engage with anything but their own keyboards and mousepads. These hands-on manipulatives will allow my students to once again, enjoy and benefit from in-person learning with their peers. I am also adding ambient lighting to make my classroom an even more inviting space. I want my classroom library, and reading in general, to be as inviting of a space as possible. With the use of hanging lights and lamps, I believe my students will be more likely to enter the classroom library and stay a while to read. Additionally, I have several students who enter my classroom with sensory issues, so the harsh lighting of the traditional overhead lights are too much for some of them to be able to really focus and read. With these new books, hands-on manipulatives, and calming-lighting, I truly believe I can create a classroom library that my kiddos will enjoy for years to come.
