Because of COVID-19, teachers have had to rely on technology more than ever before. While I used it often before the pandemic, I’ve realized that it is important to use it regularly in the classroom so that students are prepared and familiar with different platforms for when we switch to Distance Learning. A class set of quality headphones are vital for this, especially for students with learning disabilities. Many of the platforms we use regularly support listening-to-text, but this is challenging without individual headphones, especially when the ones they do have are easily lost or broken. In addition, “Wonder” is a book that has multiple examples of the importance of empathy and kindness, something which our world desperately needs right now. I would love a class set to do a novel study with my students. This book will encourage conversations that will improve students’ social-emotional health and foster community within the classroom.
