Students will utilize some of these materials for creative expression in following up after science and geography lessons. Others, like cooking equipment, will be used for cooking as well as measurement practice. The measurement volume containers will fulfill two needs of our littlest ones- first, the ever-important need to develop fine motor skills in pouring water carefully, and second, the true understanding of volume and measuring. The books will help us in our development of a classroom that is reflective of the students in it. When I chose some early reading materials from Lakeshore, I had a few students in mind, who are just on the cusp of true reading and would benefit from a few more tools. This project has a wide array of items, and the choosing is directed by observations of my students at work. Many specific units and hopes are covered by this list, and the materials will be around for years to come.
