Social-emotional learning activities are vital for students because it teaches them crucial life skills, including the ability to understand themselves, develop a positive self-image, take responsibility for their actions, and forge relationships with the people around them. With the ongoing pandemic and many of the students missing out on their normal social interactions, experiencing grief and many other challenges, the need for social-emotional support is at an all time high. As I work with many different students to increase their self-esteem and confidence, social skills, help them regulate and understand their emotions and feelings, and develop healthy reactive behaviors, these social-emotional games and activities will keep the kids engaged and teach them the necessary skills to be successful in life. The fidgets and toys create an outlet for the students with hyperactivity and restless energy. During my time working with elementary school children, I've learned that fidgets are calming tools. They reduce stress and frustration, improve focus during activities, and improve focus when children come back to what they were doing. My goal is to provide a safe space for my students to come to when they are not feeling like their best selves. Providing students with these tools will allow them to acknowledge their behaviors, understand their feelings, and develop healthy coping skills. Teaching children how to be successful in the classroom and in the outside world is my main priority.
