Students have always struggled with informational text, but because they were home for so long and have missed opportunities, their ability this year is even less. I purchased highlighters in the beginning of the year but they run out or dry out so quickly. We are down to one set shared between four students. While this is great in terms of working as a team and sharing, it takes much more time than planned. I am trying to put less emphasis on homework and would like to help them as much as possible in class on review questions and therefore more highlighters would be better for the overall learning of the material. My goal is to have this concept of highlighting with different colors for be carried on with them so that they use the method of highlighting different aspects of information text into next year and high school.
