Working in a Title I district creates another set of challenges. For not only do my students strive to overcome the adversity of economic challenges at home, but within our school walls as well. When it comes to History, options are limited. Maps and Globes are valuable learning tools, but so are the different stories that make up the fabric of US History, in this case, stories of the Revolutionary War. The books/materials that I requested for this project tell the story of the Revolutionary War through the eyes of slaves the same age of my students. I plan to have my students read and discuss the books in class. This will offer a different understanding and perspective to the event that started the United States, and offer a story not found in textbooks. These are stories they can share with their families, especially during a this time of lockdown and sickness.
