Doing is learning. The classroom dynamics have drastically changed since I started teaching 20 years ago. STEM has become a big part of everyday teaching and for good reason. Students have a better understanding when they are able to see and apply the concept. Data collection has always been a big part of learning math and science; technology has allowed us to gather more accurate and thorough results. Using the temperature probes will allow me to show the students how fast and why temperatures change. Collecting data on our experiments will also cross over to math class where we can analyze what type of function best represents the graph. The motion sensors will be used to track speed, velocity and acceleration. Students will also have to recreate the graph by actually walking it themselves. This teaches steepness of slope and increasing or decreasing graphs.
