My project is focused on growing that love for reading by purchasing multiple guided reading books on multiple levels that we can read together in my 2nd-5th grade small groups. This allows me to deliver reading instruction in a way that is engaging, focused on their interests, and enables them to enjoy books they may not have been able to read independently. This will also help expand their vocabulary, increase text comprehension, and improve fluency as we read these books together. Additionally, these resources will enable children to meaningfully participate in a group setting even with COVID protocols in place, by giving each child their own copy of the book. Finally, these guided reading sessions enable my small groups to work as a team by cheering each other on to success and assisting their peers with challenges they each experience.
