After a year of social-distancing, students are eager to learn through collaborative, hands-on activities. Last school year, I recognized that my students were bored with working on their own on computers. They came to school to be with each other, but still had to keep somewhat to themselves. This lead to a break down in ability to communicate properly, work together, and socialize in a healthy way - not to mention it greatly affected their desire to learn! My project will allow students to learn Biology using a hands-on approach where they will create interactive notebooks. This not only allows them to interact with the different standards in a 3-dimensional manner, but encourages them to work with other students while they master the new topics. I have found that using colorful paper, markers, colored pencils, etc... increases the students' desire to participate in the project and the color coding helps them navigate through the content more quickly and easily. At the end of the year, each student will have their own Biology Book that they made themselves, understand and could share with someone else!
