As a first year teacher, I have a lot of aspirations for what I want my classroom to have. One thing that I have noticed a need for is flexible seating in my classroom. I have noticed that my students really struggle staying still and focusing on a task given to them if they are at their chairs or desks. However, I have noticed that if I allow them to work on the floor, or allow them to choose where they complete their work, they are more focused and engaged. Because of this, I have chosen to use my grant money towards flexible seating options for my students, to allow them to work as comfortably as possible. I believe that giving my students flexible seating options in the classroom will not only aid them in their learning process by allowing them to stay more alert and focused, but will also help give them the tools and freedom to produce work they can be proud of.
