The dry heater is used to incubate samples before the Thermo cycling in PCR. I currently use a hot water bath, it is useful but is hard to manage and not what is currently being used in industry labs. I want my students to be up to date on current equipment and procedures. Running PCR in the class takes some of the mystery out of what is being reported in the news and social media. If a young person has first-hand knowledge of what is being debated in our public forums, they will have the tools to make informed decisions on their own health and public policy.
