Scrabble is a game that promotes social interaction combined with a reward for correct spelling. This game conducted as a 7th grade tournament will get kids excited about competing for trophies and bragging rights as tournament champions. The kids will compete on teams and will be allowed to reference the dictionary for help before they lay down a word on the board. It is very hard to teach the importance of spelling these days with the reliance on electronic gadgets to communicate. Scrabble will force my students to put down their electronics, interact with each other face to face, and learn new words and their meanings all while competing to win a double elimination class and grade level tournament. It is my hope that they will gladly open the dictionary and search for new words in a way they never have while working on a traditional spelling list. I am very excited for them! l
