We have lost many opportunities for quality connection during the COVID-19 pandemic. Students that we will be reaching with this project will have had their 4th, 5th, and 6th grade years all affected deeply by the pandemic. These students have had to learn how to do their work online without any training on how to safely use technology. Now that we are gathering together again, there is a bigger need NOW than ever for connection. A mariachi band will provide a perfect place to connect, make friends, and feel the joy of music. Mariachi performance attire is not something most kids can afford on their own, especially with the strains the coronavirus has placed on families. This project will help create opportunities for all students to participate, no matter their personal situation or background.
