My classroom currently does not have any printed novel sets. We also do not have an active library which results in a lack of availability for students to grow as readers. My students are required to use online resources whenever we read as a class. Some of them struggle with this, and many constantly ask for printed text materials. My students are asking for materials that will help improve their reading process. They have not been given the experience of holding a hard copy of a book in their hand yet. By gaining novel sets, as a class, we will be able to utilize more active reading time with print-rich materials which will help encourage my hesitant readers. Both novel sets have been chosen with my students' interests and abilities in mind. My 7th grade students will be able to read "The Crossover" in a novel study, while my 8th graders will be able to read "The Outsiders" in the novel study. Storage materials are needed in my classroom to be able to safely store the novel sets that way they stay organized. The black book bins will be utilized for this step of the project. The books will be stored on the bookshelf in the bins to keep them organized and prepared for the novel studies. The filler paper is another essential that is needed in my classroom. As we read the books, students will need paper to take notes, answer questions, write short essays, and more during our novel study. Paper is a never-ending supply in the classroom. All three of these materials, the novel sets, book bins, and filler paper will be utilized in my classroom setting. My students would be so grateful and appreciative to receive materials that will grow them as active readers.
