Daily Living skills are essential to helping students become more independent adults. As a special Education teacher, I want to foster independence in my students and the best way to do this is to offer them as many opportunities as I can to fit into their learning model. Our district was able to create a kitchenette for our classroom so now we need everyday kitchen items for our students to work with to gain independence in the future. This will give each of them the chance to follow multiple- step directions, measure, pour, stir, bake and make items that will expand their knowledge of food and personal skills. I have found that when students are given the opportunity to make something they will also try it, expanding their palates and are excited to share their creations.
