Throughout COVID-19, students have had to rely on computer devices to complete school assignments, be entertained, and to escape from stress. These students need to play and move and get away from screens. Task-oriented movement activities in which children use their bodies to accomplish purposeful, functional speech goals have shown to be effective in improving gross motor skills, fine motor skills, play skills, executive function skills and expressive language skills. However, most supplies in my speech classroom are flash cards for sounds, verbs, and vocabulary. My students are motivated to practice their speech goals if it also involves play and fun. Some students don't even realize they are practicing their goals. As speech and language skills are intertwined in all aspects of a child's learning, this project will have the possibility of making a huge impact supporting my students educationally, physically, and even emotionally.
