Knowing that all students can benefit from diverse books is only the first step in increasing students' access to diverse books, which is often limited in many schools. I plan to use these books to open the "windows" and "doors" to allow the students to really see themselves. Having books that have characters or problems that are similar to them, makes the books easier to connect and analyze. This is an exciting time to be using diverse books with students given how many outstanding books are being published and how many people are working to increase students' access to diverse books. As our students come of age in an increasingly global world and navigate a wide range of issues and challenges, the mirrors and windows we provide for our students have never mattered more.
