I want my room to be an inviting environment that fosters students' free-thinking and creative writing. I desire for it to be a place where they feel safe and comfortable to write. Alternative seating provides the perfect learning space for all our group collaboration and creative writing. I want them to feel like they are young authors in the perfect space to write their first novel or short story. Traditional desk seating is very hard with middle school students. I have students who are just too tall to fit their legs under their desks, so they are always hanging out in the aisle or kicking the person across from them. I also have several that just don’t fit in the space between the desk and the attached chair. The desks we have also made it almost impossible to create an area that allows students to do group work. Students also can’t spread out into their own spaces to feel comfortable enough to crawl inside themselves and be creative
