Due to the loss in the recent COVID years, the students have lost many foundational skills that will help them become successful in math, such as a good number sense, concrete multiplication facts and integer operations. Seeing that they are required to be given the new material at their level, there is little time to develop these skills required for success at mathematics in their level. These materials would provide the students the opportunity to feel success with the new concepts without feeling discouraged due to the loss of these key skills. We all know that math can be difficult, and as a math teacher, I feel the responsibility is to help my students achieve success in any way possible. With that being said, the students would be given the opportunity to become successful with the addition of these materials. We could spend more time focusing on the concepts that they will be tested on without feeling discouraged due to their loss in recent years. I would really appreciate these materials, and the students could regain the confidence needed in order to be successful in middle school math.
