At our school we use the Spalding method to teach phonics. It's a very useful method for learning all of the alphabet's phonograms and various letter combinations. That is just one step in the reading and writing process. I am looking to add support resources for my learners so that they can build bridges between the sounds they know and the words they speak. With the letter cubes and accompanying CVC word builder, I believe that these items will engage my learners. They will be able to take the abstract concept of symbols that represent sounds and make them more concrete by being able to physically manipulate things in their hands to create simple words on their own.
